Wichanee Meechai is facing more than just the usual tournament pressures this week. While sharing the lead after three rounds at the U.S. Women’s Open, she’s also dealing with a potentially haunted rental house.
Meechai, who has shot three consecutive rounds in the 60s at Lancaster Country Club, shares the lead at five under with Minjee Lee and Andrea Lee. This marks her fourth U.S. Open appearance, having advanced through qualifying, and her first in three years.
The 31-year-old from Thailand disclosed to reporters on Friday night that she believes her rental home for the week might be haunted. Despite the unusual circumstances, she seemed to take it in stride, updating that there was little paranormal activity the previous night.
“I’m not going to say I’m not afraid of it, but I will get along pretty well with the ghost,” Meechai commented. “I’m trying not to say anything if I hear something, so I’m just trying to act normal.”
Whether the ghost is real or just tournament jitters, Meechai is handling her unique situation with composure. As she continues to lead in Lancaster, only time will tell if her spectral roommate has any effect on her performance.
