Miles Russell, a 15-year-old from Florida, is set to make his PGA Tour debut at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, thanks to a sponsor exemption. This young phenom is already making waves in the golfing world.
Russell shot a 5-under 66 in April at the LECOM Suncoast Classic in Longwood, Florida, making him the youngest player in Korn Ferry Tour history to make a cut. Speaking about his upcoming debut, Russell shared, “Ever since I first started playing golf, my dream has been to compete on the PGA Tour and test my game against the best players. I’m looking forward to making the most of the experience later this month.”
He’s not just a one-hit-wonder. In 2023, he was honored as the American Junior Golf Association player of the year, clinching a seven-shot win in the Junior PGA Championship and becoming the youngest winner of the Junior Players Championship.
Earlier this year, he came close to qualifying for a PGA Tour event, losing in a playoff in a Monday qualifier for the Puerto Rico Open. The left-hander has been balancing his passion for golf with online classes since the eighth grade, proving his dedication both on and off the course.
Jason Langwell, Executive Director of the Rocket Mortgage Classic, said, “He has proved with his many accomplishments at such a young age that he belongs, and we are excited to see Miles compete alongside the world’s best golfers here at Detroit Golf Club.”
Rickie Fowler will also be trying to defend his Rocket Mortgage Classic title at the Detroit Golf Club starting June 27. Following this, Russell is expected to return to Detroit in July to compete at the U.S. Amateur at Oakland Hills Country Club.
Miles Russell is certainly a name to watch. With such talent and determination at just 15, his PGA Tour debut at the Rocket Mortgage Classic could be the start of an incredible career.
