Adam Scott’s incredible streak in major championships continues, thanks to a last-minute exemption from the United States Golf Association. This Monday, Scott was given a spot to compete in the U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2.
Scott, currently ranked No. 61 in the Official World Golf Ranking, was one of six golfers added to the field after the USGA removed the late Grayson Murray (No. 59) for qualifying purposes. Tragically, Murray died by suicide on May 25.
The 2013 Masters champion, Adam Scott, will be playing in his 23rd consecutive U.S. Open and his 92nd straight major championship. This achievement secures Scott the second-longest streak in men’s professional golf history, just behind Jack Nicklaus, who played in 146 consecutive majors from 1962 to 1998.
Scott has also qualified for next month’s Open Championship at Royal Troon Golf Course in Scotland. With a lifetime exemption to the Masters as a past champion, his streak could extend to at least 94 straight majors.
Alongside Scott, Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre qualified for the U.S. Open field after moving to No. 41 in the world ranking with his first PGA Tour victory at the RBC Canadian Open on June 2. LIV Golf League captain Sergio Garcia was also added to the field as one of four alternates from final qualifying. The others included amateur Brendan Valdes from Auburn, Otto Black, and Maxwell Moldovan.
Adam Scott’s exemption not only keeps his remarkable streak alive but also adds excitement to the upcoming U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2. With the inclusion of other notable players, this year’s championship promises thrilling competition.
