Charley Hull’s Reasoning, Sweet Fans, and Lowry’s Powerful Message

Hey friends, happy moving day from Lancaster Country Club! We’ve got some interesting tidbits for you today involving Charley Hull’s viral habit, the sweetest fans, and a powerful message from Shane Lowry.

First up, Charley Hull. She’s been making waves all week at the U.S. Women’s Open, and not just for her play. Hull’s been seen smoking on the course, and it’s caused quite the stir. Curious about where this habit came from? Well, it turns out she’s smoking cigarettes to quit vaping. “Best tidbit of the week from a longtime LPGA caddie: Said Charley told him she was smoking cigarettes so she can quit vaping 😂,” shared Zephyr Melton on Twitter. Whatever floats your boat, right? A quick disclaimer: this isn’t an endorsement of tobacco products.

Now, let’s talk about the fans. Lancaster Country Club was filled with hundreds of kids soaking up the golf action, and it was a heartwarming sight. A young girl collected player autographs on her shirt, and two brothers shouted, “Let her cook!” as Minjee Lee walked by. These kids were there from morning till evening, never losing their energy or excitement. It brings back memories of my own experience at the 2006 U.S. Women’s Open at Newport Country Club, where I spent the day collecting autographs and drinking lemonade. Hopefully, the girls watching today will be inspired to take up golf or at least maintain their interest in the sport.

Lastly, a more somber but important note from Shane Lowry. Lowry recently discussed the mental health challenges in professional golf with Joe Callaghan from the Irish Examiner. Reflecting on the ups and downs, Lowry shared, “This is what I say about golfers, the ups and downs of professional golf. It’s amazing out here, the highs are so high. But my God, the lows are so low… I just texted all of my friends and said ‘lads, no matter what happens, or what is going on, just give me a shout. Give me a call. Seriously.’” His words remind us of the importance of mental health and being there for each other, not just in golf but in life.

Charley Hull’s smoking habit, the delightful enthusiasm of young fans, and Shane Lowry’s heartfelt message all made for an eventful day at the U.S. Women’s Open. Stay tuned for more from Lancaster Country Club!
