Laurie Canter showcased remarkable composure, overcoming three bogeys to secure his first DP World Tour title at the European Open.
In Hamburg, Germany, Laurie Canter, also a player on the LIV Golf breakaway circuit, overcame a challenging start to his final round to win the European Open by two shots. Ranked No. 224, Canter began the day in a two-way tie with Italy’s Guido Migliozzi, holding a one-shot lead.
Migliozzi’s game unraveled with a final round of 78, but Canter had to fend off pressure from Thriston Lawrence of South Africa and Bernd Wiesberger of Austria, who were both making significant advances on the back nine. Playing his first ten holes in 1-over, Canter rallied with three birdies to finish with an overall 13-under 279, securing a 1-under 72 in his final round.
The 34-year-old golfer celebrated his hard-earned victory, marking his first European Tour title. Lawrence, who scored 68, and Wiesberger, who finished with 71, tied for second place, trailing Canter by one shot. Julien Guerrier of France and Niklas Nørgaard of Denmark finished just behind them.
Canter’s triumph at the European Open not only adds a significant milestone to his career but also underscores his ability to perform under pressure.
