Robert MacIntyre Withdraws from Memorial Tournament Right After Canadian Open Win

Robert MacIntyre, fresh off his first career PGA Tour win at the RBC Canadian Open, has decided to pull out from this week’s Memorial Tournament.

The Scottish golfer joined the ranks of PGA Tour champions on Sunday in Hamilton, Ontario, clinching the title with his father acting as his caddie. The win secured him a spot in the Memorial Tournament, a signature event held in Ohio and hosted by Jack Nicklaus. Despite the honor, MacIntyre has opted out of what would have been his sixth consecutive tournament appearance.

“This is my fifth event in a row,” MacIntyre commented after his Canadian victory. “I was planning to do U.S. Open qualifier on Monday, 36 holes with my dad on the bag. Thankfully, that’s off the cards.”

By skipping the Memorial, MacIntyre will miss out on a $20 million prize pool. The Memorial is one of the few signature events that still incorporates a 36-hole cut, so substantial earnings were not guaranteed. Following the Memorial, the U.S. Open and another signature event, the Travelers Championship, are on the horizon. MacIntyre has already secured his spot in both of these upcoming tournaments, thanks to his one-shot victory over Ben Griffin at the Hamilton Golf & Country Club.

In his absence, Davis Thompson has been added to the Memorial field via the Aon Swing 5. MacIntyre’s fans will undoubtedly be watching closely as he prepares for the challenging tournaments ahead.

Robert MacIntyre’s decision to withdraw from the Memorial Tournament marks a strategic move to manage his schedule and prepare for upcoming challenges. The golfing world will be keen to see how he performs in the upcoming U.S. Open and Travelers Championship.
