With the U.S. Open right around the corner, final qualifying rounds have kicked off across various locations, including Japan, England, and the U.S. Golf enthusiasts are eagerly watching as players battle for their spot in one of the most prestigious golf tournaments of the year, set to take place at Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina.
The U.S. Open final qualifying began on May 20 with three initial sites: Dallas Athletic Club in Texas, Walton Heath Golf Club in Surrey, England, and Hino Golf Club in Shiga Prefecture, Japan.
At the Dallas Athletic Club, 130 players vied for 11 spots. Nicolas Echavarria topped the leaderboard with a 67-68=135, followed by Mcclure Meissner and Eugenio Lopez Chacarra, both scoring 136. Other qualifiers included Takumi Kanaya, Francesco Molinari, Brandon Wu, Michael McGowan, Parker Bell (amateur), S.H. Kim, Sung Kang, and Logan McAllister.
Over at Walton Heath Golf Club, 92 players competed for 9 spots. Grant Forrest, Richard Mansell, and Brandon Robinson Thompson led the way with scores of 134. They were closely followed by Sam Bairstow and Robert Rock at 135, and Tom McKibbin, Edoardo Molinari, Jason Scrivener, and Matteo Manassero at 136.
In Japan, the Hino Golf Club saw 34 players battling for just 3 spots. Ryo Ishikawa and Riki Kawamota both shot 131, while Taisei Shimizu finished with a 132 to secure the final qualifying position.
These were just the initial rounds. The bulk of the final qualifying events, known as ‘Golf’s Longest Day,’ are scheduled for June 3. On this day, players will compete across ten locations: Cherry Hill Club in Ontario, Lake Merced Golf Club in Daly City, The Bear’s Club in Jupiter, The Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta, Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Canoe Brook Country Club in Summit, Duke University Golf Club in Durham, Ohio State University Golf Club’s Scarlet Course along with Kinsale Golf & Fitness Club in Columbus, Springfield Country Club in Ohio, and Pronghorn Resort’s Nicklaus Course in Bend, Oregon.
